I always hear eyes are the window to the soul and that is exactly the first thing I thought of when I saw these watercolor painting of eyes. The different colors around the eyes and the way the eyes are facing bring create different emotions. along with the plain watercolors I also like her collaboration as well.

Nail Polish and Ice Cream

This photographer, Jonathon Kambouris, takes pictures of regular, ordinary stuff but in a neat way. His portfolio is pretty cool but what really caught my eye was his series on melted ice cream and nail polish designs. They are inspired by countries and cultures from around the world so it's really neat. It's a little hard to explain so check it out for yourself.

I love this jewelry! I discovered some of this in a small art store in Beaufort, SC a year ago and was super excited when I found another store that had tons of this in San Francisco. This man makes molds out of plants and uses them to create jewelry. He has had an exhibit in the Smithsonian.

Tumblr is a sight for people to express themselves through pictures rather than words. Mr.E is an artist who post his art on tumblr. I was flipping through random tumblrs a while back and I found this guy. I like the pictures of the people he does. Most of the pictures are changed so that you can not tell who the person is or even if it is a person at points. I like the aged feel he gives to his art work.

We will have an informational session with representatives from the SCGSAH Nov. 16 10:30 am. All interested students should stop by Mr. Grant in guidance if they want to attend this meeting or if they want more information concerning the Governor's school.

SC Governor's school is a residential public high school located in Greenville, SC. It serves 11-12 grade students with exceptional skills, talents, and abilities in creative writing, drama, music (instrumental and vocal) and visual arts. Dance students can attend for 4 years, 9-12 grades. The only charge is for a meal plan. They do honor free and reduced meal applications.

We have had a few students from Rock Hill attend with success.

Dropping in to drop and Idea

So I have newly found my love for collage and I want to share some ideals from it, and another thought along with this website as an example!
So basically in this serious of images the human body makes up these flower pieces. In any art work I believe that we all see something else in it. It may be literally or not, but I feel like this is such a huge concept of art that is just something that is known but never discussed or mentioned. Sometimes pieces have a purpose and others just don't and I found myself in that predicament today! So I guess what I am trying to understand is maybe there is no right way, we all have different perspectives?

I keep finding totally random art sights and this guy Rory Kurtz is pretty amazing. He isn't set in one media. He paints and draws, he uses ink, paint and even digital thinks. I don't know if i think this is cool or really weird. The first 10 or so pictures of this woman's baby...but it is not the normal baby photos. This woman uses her sleeping baby as art. she creates a scene and then places her baby into the scene and well photographs her. Most of them are super cute, the one with the baby on the clothes line is weird.

He is such a good artist and designer. He showed his "sketches" of the houses, although they looked more like finished drawings to me because they were so well done. He even showed his "cheat" to drawing.....He prints off a very light picture of the house and draws over it. He knows how to please a homeowner. He has only had one unhappy person out of all the houses he as done but in the end the homeowner loved it. I always loved the shows on hgtv and how they make the houses into art in its self. John Gidding and David Bromstad are my two favorites. I have met one...now i want to meet David Bromstad and i will be happy

I've recently been studying about assistive technology for people with special needs. My studies led me to a quadriplegic who takes an active role in the invention of assistive technology for artists. As you know, I get side-tracked a lot. This time I wound up at a page that listed many artists who have either overcome barriers or have excelled in the arts despite having disabilities. I'm going to list several links below, starting with the page that lists these incredible artists. This link will be followed by two artists who stood out to me.

Steven Wiltshire-- Often called "The Human Camera," this autistic artist can draw entire cities by memory with scary precision.

Downtown Sculptures..Torn Down?

I'm not sure many people realized that the "Twig Sculptures" (Named "Aint' Misbehavin'".) were torn down as of monday Jan. 24th. I hadn't even noticed the changed until I was looking up Rock Hill artwork today. The sculptures oddly resembled tumbleweeds..but I found them entrancing. The guy from CN2 told me it was going to be on the news Friday at 6 p.m. but I never saw it. Any of you see it?

I personally find digital art to be very interesting, and sometimes the simpler the art style the better. Thats why I linked to a very simple game/digital affect that in my opinion shows digital art in one of the simplest forms.

Ron English

I discovered Ron English through the movie Supersize Me, which is about a man who eat McDonald's for 30 days. In the movie Ron English's artwork is shown (the second picture is an example of one shown in the film). His artwork is quite interesting to me because he protrays what he sees in his life. In the movie English talks about how all he sees is fastfood and advertisments, so that where he gets his inspiration from. This is a sinister if you ask me if you take a look at his artwork. A lot of his artwork show the corruption and the bad side effects of today's media and culture. He shows McDonalds with a negative connotation and a lot about the corrupting effects it has on children (as shown by the last piece).

While I was at my dance class this past Monday after Spring Break, my dance instructor had some posters up on the wall and one of them was for Gallery Up and it immediately intrigued me. It's a place run by artists that you can buy art work from, both online or in downtown Rock Hill. What really surprised me was that it was so local, and already plan to visit Gallery Up soon and possibly buy a piece of artwork there. Or, just browse.

Tornado sculpture

Julia Good man's large suspended paper sculpture is constructed of junk mail, from which she extracted all the blue colored paper. The clever metaphor evoked is a tornado gone awry. I found this quite interesting Ive always wanted to make a sculpture like this.

My mom actually found this competition on the Washinton Post and I think it's awesome! There are 35 diaramas using peeps contestants entered into this competition and they're adorable. They include movies, television shows, pop culture references and more. I honestly looked at pictures of this online for almost an hour. Attached is a link to the rest of the photos.

Santiago Gets the Credit

So Santiago mentioned something in class the other day and I gently brushed it off. My apologies to him. Since this encounter, I've run across these terms, "Freekonomics" and "SuperFeakonomic," at least three times. The most recent after I researched a TED.com author and found out she contributed to Freakonomics blog at the New York Times.

So.... I AM interested in this and would like to watch this documentary, especially the part about the research on incentivizing students with money.
