I recently came across the artist, Dale Chihuly, who is known for his eccentric usage of glass and light in his pieces. Other that the fact that I really love the picture to the left, I Chihuly's pieces to be intriguing as well. He writes on his website that he is inspired to do seafoam artworks by marine life. Althought he is quite famous, I discovered him on another blogger's website. He is from Seattle, WA and frequently does work in Italy. He generally uses small pieces of glass to create huge, intricate masses of detailed, and very colorful class sculptures. His venetians are crazy, they are on his website.

ReplyDeleteEmilia,
ReplyDeleteThere is actually a Chihuly show that just opened down at the Columbia Museum of Art that lasts until Nov. 30. You are actually the second student who has found his work to be worth mentioning (see march 24). One of his famous pieces is actually in the permanent collection up at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in uptown Charlotte. I'm always amazed at his use of colors and how he is able to combine seemingly endless amounts of fragile glass. Awesome artist!
