When I saw this sculpture at the MoMa last Christmas break, something about it was striking to me. After doing more research on Donald Judd, I discovered that minimal sculpting was his forte. Judd (1928-1994) had a degree in philosophy and made a living as an art critic. He also did expressionist paintings, and regularly traveled to Baja, California to create art. He served in the army before becoming an artist.
