Gallery Up’s Teabowl Invitational exhibition is on view through June 19, 2009 with the opening reception next week on May 21, 2009 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The show provides a look at modern interpretations of the historically significant teabowl.
With origins in Japan, China and Korea, one aspect of a traditional tea ceremony recognizes that every human encounter is a unique occasion which can never occur again exactly thus the experience of sharing tea must be savored. The teabowl is a major component of this traditional ceremony and has a found renewed significance among clay artists in the West.
