I was looking for a different article relating to art when I came across this even better article. This articles discusses the importance of art in the lives of children and in the community. Also, it brings up the point that art too has suffered fromthe economy. Despite this, the articles states that art makes it "easy to ignite the spark of curiosity, creativity and individuality in receptive hearts and minds". So, hopefully fine arts won't suffer due to budget cuts, keep your fingers crossed. :)
Very interesting post. Please check out Daniel Pink's book, "A Whole New Mind: Why right-brainers will rule the future." Pink explains why creative thinkers are becoming more and more necessary in the corporate world.
