Louvre and San Francisco museums sign five-year deal
The Musée du Louvre and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco that includes the De Young and Legion of Honor museums are expected to announce a five year collaboration on November 16th. This is the Louvre's first long term collaboration with the west coast museum.The louvre had collaborated with other west coast museums before
but never for the long term years.The museums will work together to organize exhibits
and publications. Henri Loyrette, the director of the Louvre, is
expected to announce the collaboration at the opening of the “Royal
Treasures from the Louvre: Louis XIV to Marie-Antoinette” in San
Franisco. This is an exhibit in the Legion of Honor museum. Loyrette
has been trying to make the museum "more modern" since
becoming director by reaching out to museums in foreign lands. The collaboration works for both sides San Franisco gets to bring great work there and they get to show off their fine art. Loyrette says there is no fee for the collaboration and that they will spilt the costs.
