Today I went on a wonderful adventure to The McColl Center for Visual Art off N. Tryon in Charlotte.
Basically, the McColl Center is a gallery and studio building. Where artist apply to have studio space for either 3 or 11 months at a time. So you can apply and get accepted but not actually be there for 2 years everything is so planned ahead. The McColl Center is an old church building that was built in the 1920's burnt down in the 80's and rebuilt back up in the 90's to be what it is today. It is the 3rd best rated Artist resident center in the country, and 5th in the world.
On days like today, and upcoming March 5th, they have open door studio sessions. From 11-4 you can go and talk to the artist and see all their work on display and in action.
I can honestly say I have never been so inspired and felt so connected with a group of people in my entire life. Their mediums and ages ranged and really take the time to talk to you, we all had so much in common.
SO with all this being said on March 5th I am proposing a 'field trip' for all who would like to come to visit the center and experience this! Art students, NAHS, and yes Mr. Brant you too! LETS DO THIS.
(And I just realized that Brant already has this place in his links... )
