A Picasso painting is going to auction this week and is expected to sell for around $5 Million. What's especially interesting about this auction is that the owner is not sending it to London or New York to be auctioned. Instead, he's using the action to draw attention to the Sydney art market, saying "We see Sydney positioned in the southern hemisphere as New York is positioned in the northern hemisphere."
This auction got me wondering about what other pieces are moving around. I checked out the online auction section of Artnet.com and found pieces from other famous artists including Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe. and Chuck Close-- all less expensive than I used to think.
